The majority of patios are laid using very porus materials and in sheltered garden areas which make the formation of moss and algae highly likely. Many patio slabs have a green tinge given enough time!
We may pre-treat the area using a Fungicidal Wash or Moss Clear product, which although they are excellent at removing green growth of all types, are made from biodegradable ingredients and don't contain bleach or acid.
Next, our high-powered petrol-engined pressure washer will be used, usually in combination with a large rotary head, to thoroughly clean the surface.
Homeowners are usually amazed at how well their patio comes up - the surface often looks close to how it looked when new. However, if left without protection, in another year the surface will look as it did before, so we always recommend two coats of Smartseal™ Patio Sealer. This gives the surface protection against moss and algae forming, although there is some onus on the homeowner to hose the surface down, perhaps half-yearly or annually and those contaminants, in addition to general dirt and muck will wash away much more easily because they can't get such a hold on the surface.
The sealer also usually brings out the natural colours in the stone very well, further enhancing the appearance of the surface.
